| Always in Service Rating = 1 Abington, PA (serves the PA, MD, VA area) Telephone (877)562-5155 or (866)767-8010 We picked Always In Service out of the yellow pages when the spring on our garage door broke. They quoted us a decent price on the phone and said they could have a technician to us within hours. Since both of our cars were stuck in the garage, we said “OK.” The technician showed up two hours late and quoted us over double (about $550) the estimate given on the phone. I called a local repair company (Loudoun Garage Door) and he said he would do the repair for about $280. When I told this to the Always In Service tech, he called his manager and “magically” agreed to match that price. This company is based in Pennsylvania and has technicians roaming the area waiting for calls. They are a very questionable outfit and I would not recommend them to anyone. Go with a local company – the person I spoke with at Loudoun Garage Door (located in Leesburg) seemed knowledgeable and saved me big bucks by giving me an honest estimate. If I had not been in such an emergency situation, I would have given my business to them. (Malloy – June 2011) |

| Air Comfort Specialists Rating = 5 Round Hill, Va 703-771-9481 One of my original AC units burned itself out in the middle of the summer. It was so hot you could not touch the AC housing. The accompanying smell of something frying convinced me that the York brand unit had to be replaced.I called Ed O’toole at Air Comfort and referred to the AC as “builder grade.” He said there was no such thing as builder grade units. He said too many of these original units get replaced prematurely when they still have years of service left in them. Ed performed a few tests installed a new part and had the York unit operating for $250.00. He said there was no reason to invest $5,000-7,000 in a replacement unit at this time.Air Comfort Specialists has performed installations and repairs before and every time I was treated fair and square. Rating: 5 One contractor had estimated that we needed 8 zones, another 16. These guys actually tested our (excellent) pressure and determined that we could get by fine with 12 zones for .40 acres. They quoted $200 more than the 8-zone company and $1300 less than the 16-zone crew. They added a 13th zone at no charge, for our vegetable garden. All of the work was done by the partners, Shane & Shawn, who are really nice guys, plus two helpers, in two days. The design work was excellent. They completed on time and did absolutely minimal damage to the lawn. The system works great, and is easy to adjust for seasons. They’ve stopped by twice for minor adjustments at no charge. Painting

His work especially carpentry, deck restoration, etc. are way below standard. He does not use drop cloths when interior and exterior painting and unfortunately, paints (exterior) over rotten wood instead of repairing as promised. He hires (sub-contractors) and therefore does not guarantee their work. We have reported him to the Leesburg Police Department as well as contacted our Attorney. Unfortunately, because Larry Townsend does not hold a Business License, we are liable for any expenses related to Court costs, his Attorney costs, etc. for bringing him to trial. Note: Larry is a very ‘friendly’ guy, knocks on doors through out Woodlea and Greenway Farms, to obtain business. (June 2008) |

| Western Pest Services Rating = 5 703 273-4887 I have had a service agreement with this company since the summer we moved here. The service agreement is a little expensive, but was reduced by $100.00 the 2nd year. You don’t have to have a service agreement, though. Individual 30 day programs are available as well. Initially, I needed them for silverfish in the attic. It was a persistent problem, but Western was diligent and professional and I have not had a problem since that first summer with silverfish. Several months later a roofer, looking for work door to door told me I had two large holes in our roof made by squirrels. I called Cedar Shakes and told them about the report I received. They arrived 48 hrs. later and actually took pictures while on my roof to show there were no holes and to set our mind at ease. | Mike Gorman Roof Repairs Rating = 0 888-685-4373 Roof Repair Rip Off Beware of a Mike Gorman who goes door to door claiming to be reputable roof repair provider. He came to my door saying I had a (squirrel) hole in my roof. I had no evidence of either water leaks or a rodent infestation in the attic. I was taken in by the raconteur’s “good ol’ boy” charm and pronouncements of living by the gospel.In short, Mike Gorman did the following: He did not complete the job as promised. He did cash my $1000.00 check. He did not return phone calls. He did not stand behind his guarantee.If you call him at 888-685-4373 you will never get him “live.” Not to worry though, for his greeting says “your call is important to me” and closes with “have a blessed day.” How comforting.I have since contacted another firm to fix the Mike Gorman induced leak in my roof. We received 6 estimates and only 2 of the companies sat down with us to go over their proposals and Alpha Rain was one of them. Mr. Brandy Dysart and his son Paul came to the house twice and went over their proposal in detail. There were no hidden costs, they were honest and delivered a great product. Their price was fair (not the most expensive or the least expensive) and was the best value for us. The company only installs residential standing seam metal roofs and their crew of three know their trade very well. The men showed up every day until the job was complete (8 days). They cleaned up every night before they left and were meticulous when installing the roof. The metal roofs they install are energy star rated (even in black) and through the end of the year come with the $1500 tax credit. This was an expensive repair and would hire Alpha Rain again. We knew coming in that we would have a roof replacement within 5 years…join the club! Having just moved here, with my family from England, I never thought there would be a subject so talked of as the weather! How wrong could one be…the roofs of Woodlea Manor trump the weather in England!On September 22 I just happened to be home when the area was hit, quite literally, with a tremendous hail and rain storm. We had a very active leak from the rain that fell confined to the unfinished basement, thank God, which led to several phone calls. Well one thing led to another….roofer…roofer….insurance adjuster….roofer….chimney specialist….calls into all of the above again due to the rains last night! The bottom line is this, we are getting a full replacement roof from our homeowner’s insurance due to the hail damage to our roof, that was already in very poor condition. It is being replaced in November with a PROPER shake roof (our preference!): Premium shakes (many grades up form the builder stock originally used in the area), nailed not stapled with proper ventilation by a Leesburg roofing company that I am very impressed with thus far. Having come from a small village in England where our motto for the businesses in the area was ‘Use it or loose it! I was very pleased that the company that I found is in Leesburg and has been working in the area for the last 11+ years. They were certainly the most timely in response to my inquiry and got the job assessed, approved and scheduled quicker than I could have hoped for. They did all the work in advance for the insurance adjuster and we had our roof approved within an hour. They have done the same for several other homeowners in Woodlea Manor and have several more scheduled for inspection.Why am I sharing this with you? I did not believe that we had hail damage until I saw the pictures of the damage to our roof for myself. I was appalled and could see it with my untrained eyes, it was that obvious.
