Leesburg South/Meadowbrook Retail Center Meeting 25 January

The owners of the property known as “Leesburg South” or “Meadowbrook” are in the process of developing plans for a grocery-anchored, community retail center to be located on approximately 24 acres south of the intersection of Route 15 (South King Street) and Route 621 (Evergreen Mill Road).  As they did for the approved residential subdivision plan on the same property, they are currently soliciting input from the greater community prior to undertaking any detailed planning.  A community information meeting will be held at Evergreen Mill Elementary School on January 25 from 7-9 PM.  In addtion to Woodlea residents, residents of Evergreen Meadows, Linden Hill, Country Club, and Greenway Farm are being invited to attend this meeting.   At the meeting representatives of the property owner will review the overall project as well as open the meeting to a discussion of design, uses, impacts, etc.  Questions and suggestions will be encouraged.  The property owners are also open to discussing the project outside of this meeting.  Please feel free to contact either Peter Kalaris at pkalaris@aol.com, or Bruce DeAtley at whitehallpart@aol.com for additional information.

Town of Leesburg News Release

For Immediate Release

Leesburg Snow Emergency Routes & Snow Removal Policies

Leesburg, VA (December 13, 2011) – In preparation for the winter weather season, Town officials remind residents and businesses about Town policies for handling snow, sleet, ice and other wintry precipitation.

Snow Emergency Routes.  A snow emergency is declared when two or more inches of snow, sleet or other icy precipitation has accumulated on Town roadways.  When a snow emergency is in effect, all vehicles must be removed from streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes.  Any vehicle not removed from the designated streets when a snow emergency is in effect will be towed at the owner’s expense.  Snow Emergency Routes are:

  • Market Street, from Fairview Street to the Route 7/15 Bypass
  • King Street, from the Union Cemetery to Country Club Drive
  • Loudoun Street, from Liberty Street to Harrison Street

Snow removal from Town streets.  The Town of Leesburg Public Works Department’s Street Division is responsible for snow removal from public streets throughout Town.  When possible, crews will salt and sand streets before the onset of wintry weather.  Plowing operations will begin immediately once snow starts to accumulate on roadways.  Snow Emergency Routes and other primary roads will be cleared first, followed by secondary streets and subdivision roads.  Town crews will work 12-hour shifts, 24 hours a day, as long as necessary to clear streets.  Until plowing is completed, citizens are urged not to use streets unless absolutely necessary.  In advance of a snowfall, residents can assist in the efficiency of snow removal operations by removing all vehicles, trailers, trash cans and other items from roadways in order to provide snow plows with maximum space for snow removal operations.

Snow removal from sidewalks.  Property owners or occupants are required to remove snow from public sidewalks adjoining their property within 24 hours of a snowfall.  If ice is present and cannot be removed, it should be covered with sand, kitty litter or similar substance that will allow pedestrians safe passage.  Snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas must not be pushed into the street or other Town right-of-way.  Town Street Division crews will remove snow from sidewalks adjoining Town-owned or maintained properties.

For more information about the Town’s snow removal operations, please visit www.leesburgva.gov/index.aspx?page=152#snow_removal.

The Pool Will Be Closed This Weekend Due To Expected Hurricane

The pool will be closed on Saturday and Sunday due to the hurricane.  We are going to take all the umbrellas down today and secure items in preparation for high winds.  We aren’t sure exactly sure what time the bad weather will start, and we don’t want a lot of last minute scrambling.
